AN AUDIENCE-LESS ADDRESS TO THE SYDNEY INSTITUTE

  • 18 March 2020

As a full COVID-19 lock-down loomed over Australia, we cancelled the audience but forged ahead with my planned address about my memoir The Bite of the Lotus to The Sydney Institute, a conservative think-tank, with only Executive Director Gerard Henderson, Deputy Director and wife Anne Henderson and a camera operator for later broadcast on Sky News Extra.  Nobody was laughing at my jokes but a great one-on-one Q&A with Gerard afterwards.  I first spoke at the Institute following our first return to Vietnam in 1995, 20 years after the Fall of Saigon when my memoir begins.  (See link to that talk, The Vietnam War – Time for a Revision of Views below.)
